Environmental Policy
Fort Sumter Tours and SpiritLine Cruises will strive to protect and preserve the natural and cultural resources of Fort Sumter National Monument, Charleston harbor and surrounding areas through wise environmental stewardship. We will continue our role as environmental leaders. Environmental stewardship must be our way of doing business. Fort Sumter Tours and SpiritLine Cruises will conduct operations and activities in an environmentally and professionally sound manner, effectively and efficiently complying with the letter, spirit, and intent of applicable environmental statutes, regulations, standards, executive orders, and policies. We will accomplish this through pollution prevention and sustainable management practices to maintain environmental integrity and mitigate adverse environmental impacts to the extent possible. These approaches will be used to empower Fort Sumter Tours, SpiritLine Cruises and others to become part of our integrated environmental ethic. Our environmental policy will be communicated to employees, visitors and others. Managers and other decision-makers will always ask: Does this decision meet our environmental policy?
The President, management team, supervisors and employees are responsible for working together to protect the environment in and around Charleston harbor and Fort Sumter National Monument. The Vice President of Marine Operations is accountable for leading environmental management processes and finding funding and resources. The Environmental Management System Team is responsible for analyzing environmental issues, setting objectives and targets, managing projects, and asking for assistance. Fort Sumter Tours and SpiritLine Cruises will strive for continual improvment in our environmental performance. Environmental protection is everyone's responsibility.
